They’re alive

With the clocks going forward, I had enough time to get down to the field after work this week and see if any of the planting that we had done in February showed signs of life. All the saplings I surveyed, whether peering into the protective tubes for the hedge plants or just looking at the tops of the larger trees that were planted in the woodland area, were budding and alive. What a relief. We had tried to be super careful, keeping the saplings protected until the last moment, carefully arranging the roots. But still good to see that they are all thriving.

We also put a camera with a motion sensor near what we thought was the badger sett. Turns out that we have both badgers and foxes living in neighbouring holes and setts, both caught on film on their night escapades.

Perhaps it is the spring sunshine, the promise of the summer ahead, but felt so good to see the field coming to life. I am going to enjoy watching the change over the next few years as a bit of wild nature moves in. I am just hoping that the spring sunshine doesn’t last forever and we do get some April showers – I don’t want to be spending the next few evening visits watering all the saplings.
