Abounded’s first project is to turn 20 acres of low grade pasture into a biodiverse wet woodland and meadow. The land will become a stepping stone for nature, part of a nature network that contributes to nature recovery in Kent. This site tracks our progress as the land regenerates, nature thrives and the plants and animals move in.
The scheme will see us plant 500m of new native mixed hedgerow, improve the existing hedgerows, plant some standard walnut trees and create a wet woodland bordering the stream that runs along one side of the field. To start with, the grassland was in poor condition with low levels of biodiversity. Through seeding, hay taking and conservation grazing, the site will be managed to become a lowland meadow. With 5000 more trees and a biodiverse meadow, the project will significantly improve the habitat for birds, bats, hedgehogs, hares and maybe even otters.
